Festival of Lights Diwali or Deepavali literally means row of lamps.
It falls on the night of the new moon in October or November, in the dark phase of the moon.
It's a celebration of the home coming of Lord Rama.
On this day he returned to his birthplace, Ayodhya, after spending 14 years in exile.
The people of Ayodhya lit thousands of clay lamps – ‘deepa’ – to welcome Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.
Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, is worshipped for prosperity & well-being during this time.
