We are part of the Raise a Reader Project19 October 2022 (by admin) |
We are very excited to share that we are taking part in Raise a Reader Oxfordshire, an exciting programme delivered by the National Literacy Trust and Oxford University Press, a leading education publisher, as part of the Primary School Library Alliance.
Participating schools receive – at absolutely no cost – 500 brand new books to reinvigorate their school library
and reading spaces, together with a range of audiobooks. Children will have access to Oxford Reading Buddy,
an online eBook library and comprehension buddy. Teachers also complete specialist training, filled with ideas
to support reading for pleasure and bringing stories to life.
What does this mean for parents and carers?
Over the course of the next academic year, your child will have access to these new books through the school
library and reading spaces and we hope they will share their excitement about this with you at home. Reading
for pleasure has many academic, creative and wellbeing benefits for children and our goal is to give your
child as many opportunities to discover the magic of books as possible.
Through the specialist training, delivered by National Literacy Trust and Oxford University Press, we will be
exploring how to encourage pupils to read for pleasure in school and at home.
In the meantime, we encourage you to share in the excitement around reading and explore new books with
your children as they come home. The local library is another excellent free resource with many regular events
and a wonderful collection of books to explore for free.
Please do look out for opportunities to encourage your child to join in or to see where you can get involved –
we will keep you updated via school jotter.
