Oceans' weekly reflect and review11 November 2022 (by Menna (Menna)) |
Wow! What a busy week in Oceans! This week we've been exploring different famous buildings and recreating them in different artistic styles.
The children have developed their ideas, mastering skills such as collage, wax resist and watercolour washes as part of our Art and Design sessions whilst studying famous buildings such as the Gherkin, Taj Mahal and Sydney Opera House.
In English, we've been thinking about what lies beneath our feet - exploring the invertebrates, specifically insects, in our playground. We saw lots of annalids (worms) and crustaceans (woodlice). We used the opportunity to revisit our previous learning from September about animal classification and habitats.
We are lucky enough to be taking part in a research programme with Sumdog which gives all the children full access to the maths, spelling and grammar training on the Sumdog app. Several children have been busy using Sumdog both in school and at home. The app tailors the questions to the children's understanding and next steps - please encourage your child to login and have a go at home.
Next week, John from Oxford Lieder will be coming in for our Lieder music sessions in preparation for our concert in the Sheldonian Theatre on Wednesday 7th December. We'll be continuing our foray into finding out what lies beneath our streets in English whilst in Maths, we'll be tackling column addition and subtraction using borrowing and in topic we'll be learning about LS Lowry and thinking about his life and his artistic style.
