Coral Reef Weekly Reflect and Review

20 January 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

It’s been a chilly week in the Coral Reef. Not only has there been ice outside but we have been exploring ice inside too!

In our key groups we did a science experiment to find out what would melt the ice the best out of warm and cold water and salt. The children all made a prediction before the experiment began. Surprisingly different groups had different results. We also had lots of fun seeing what happens when we added bicarbonate of soda to frozen vinegar. I wonder if your child can remember what happened?

We were also thinking about what clothing we should wear in winter and why. We looked at the type of clothing scientists and explorers have to wear in Antarctica.

Next week we will be starting our Art Project and creating 3D arctic animal heads out of newspaper. We will be thinking about how we can keep ourselves healthy and what a healthy packed lunch looks like. We will be learning facts about polar bears and penguins and writing fact files about them in our writing books. in our Drawing club sessions we will be focusing on the story ‘Penguin’
