Coral Reef weekly Reflect and Review

21 April 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

The children have enjoyed their first week back and have begun to explore and learn about our new topic under water worlds through a range of experiences.

On our art table the children have been looking closely at different types of shells, using magnifying glasses to help them and they have had a go at drawing them using fine tip pens, charcoal and drawing pencils. Their observational drawings were wonderful and it has been lovely to see the children really concentrating and noticing similarities and differences in the shells, some of the children even wondered if a sea creature might have lived in them!

In maths the children have been learning their number bonds to ten and remembering which two number friends add together to make a total of ten and they are getting very good at recalling these. Perhaps you could practise at home? We have also been learning the names of some 3D shapes and learning about their properties- which have flat faces and curved.

During our Write Stuff sessions we have been thinking about The Rainbow Fish story and the children have been brave writers when writing new words and sentences. The teachers are really impressed with their efforts.

On Monday we will be reflecting on Eid. If you are celebrating Eid with your family and friends we would love to see some photos so that the children talk about how they celebrated. Please send your photos to coralreef@stfrideswides.co.uk

As well as thinking about Eid we will be exploring the wonderful wordless picture book Flotsam and using an underwater camera to take photos in our water tray. We will also be exploring printing techniques by printing fish.

    Have a great weekend
