St Fred's High reflect and review23 June 2023 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
Another great week, with a trip to Science Oxford and exciting crafts.
This week has been another great week for St Fred's High!
In Maths, we have finalised our bakery project by using our knowledge of 3D shape and volume to design our cake packaging. In English, we have continued with our book The Explorer, reaching the point in sentence stacking where our main character is persuading the others that building a raft is their only chance to get home. We have role played discussions the characters may have had and even had a go at building mini rafts!
Following our amazing trip to Science Oxford, Darwin have learnt to write emails in computing, sending a review and our answers to the questions set during the trip to Science Oxford. Livingstone will complete this in computing next week. We look forward to their replies. We also had another great workshop with Explore Learning today, this time focusing on Maths skills.
Our first RSE session with the boys went well today, and these sessions will continue next week, for the girls on Monday and Friday and for the boys on Wednesday. Each session takes place during the afternoon tutor time slot, 2:00-2:40.
Next week:
Next week in Maths we are moving on to a new project that looks at being tourists and booking a holiday. Over the two weeks we will be looking at data about the weather in different countries, using conversions to work out travel distances and costings, public transport timetables and combining these to plan different holidays for different types of requests.
In English we will be continuing with The Explorer, preparing to write our own versions in the following week.
We are continuing to look at the features of Mount Everest and beginning to look at the dangers of climbing in our humanities lessons, while in PE we are putting the skills we have practised all together to be able to play a full game of rounders.
Reminders:
Please check your emails and post for communication from your child's secondary school as most schools have sent information about transition days. Cheney's transition days are next week - Thursday 29th and Friday 30th June.
All children should still be completing 3-5 reading plus sessions at home each week and completing their Big Maths (the weeks reset each Sunday night) if they missed the session or did not complete it in the set lesson that week.
