coral Reef Reflect and Review23 June 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
It’s been another busy week in Reception. We have been thinking about Doug the Bug in Drawing Club and the children had some really imaginative ideas when it came to thinking about how Doug could escape out of the window.
In our topic session the children looked at an aerial view of our garden, we also got to look at the garden from an upstairs window in school! On our maps we had to locate the areas where the insects live and mark it with a cross. Afterwards the children worked in small groups using loose parts to create a physical map of our garden and placed plastic insects on the physical maps to show the areas where they had found bugs. There were some lovely discussions, decision making and team work.
In our writing sessions the children have been focusing on the story ‘Jack and the Jellybean’ and writing sentences that described the colour and taste of jellybeans and they even had the opportunity to eat a jellybean to get their creative juices going!
Today we said farewell to Josh our student teacher, it has been fantastic having him and we wish him well on his future career in Early Years!
Next week we will be looking at special places in RE and why these places are important for different communities.
As part of our Personal, Health and Social Education we will be holding a fund raising cake sale on Wednesday after school, so don’t forget to bring your money if you would like to buy a cake!
The children will be making the cakes during our cooking session and they will have a fun bug theme!
On Friday it is our special forest school sessions for the important males in our lives. As we have so many attending we will need to run two 45 minute sessions running from 1pm-2.30 We will put out a list at the beginning of the week so you know when your slot is.
Have a fab weekend
