Coral Reef Weekly Reflect and Review22 September 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
This week we started our Terrific Tales topic. We discovered that Goldilocks had visited us and she has been leaving messages for us.
Some of the children have been excited each morning to look for her messages and they have enjoyed writing and drawing their own replies.
The children were also introduced into the magical world of ‘Drawing Club’ where they have been drawing characters, setting as well as taking the characters from Goldilocks and The Three Bears on an adventure through their drawings using their own ideas and imagination.
The children also listened to an audio version of the story and the teachers were so impressed with their super listening skills.
In addition the children participated in their first ‘Helicopter Story’ session, this is where children have the opportunity to tell their own story, the teacher scribes the story and then the children get to perform it with the help of their classmates.
In phonics the children are making great progress and we began to use magnetic sounds on magnetic boards to make simple words such has mad, mat, sat, the children then used ‘Fred Talk’ to say each sound and blend the sounds together to read the words. We were really impressed with their efforts! Please continue to support your child to practise reading the individual sounds in their green homework book. It really does make a difference to your child’s progress in reading and writing.
Next week our story focus will be ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’
unfortunately we have had a case of Head Lice, please check your child’s hair and treat if required.
Have a lovely weekend!
