Coral Reef Weekly Reflect and Review6 October 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Our adventure through traditional tales continued this week and on Monday we discovered that a Gingerbread Man and his friends had been caught on camera visiting our classroom over the weekend!
All week the Gingerbread Man has been leaving us messages and the children have been excited to write back!
This week we were also treated to a visit from The Oxford Story Museum who brought along their magical Grimm Fairy tale Suitcase along with some storytelling props, toys and puppets. The children listened beautifully to the stories and were able to take an active role in joining in with some of the words and actions. The children were particularly captivated by the Storytelling Suitcase.
In our drawing club sessions the children have been busy drawing the Gingerbread man and drawing what they thought the 'Stinky Cheeseman' might look like and what would happen if you touched him! There were some great ideas and drawings!
In phonics the children have been practising 'Fred Talk' to blend the sounds to make and read words such as m-a-n and d-i-g. They have also been practising reading all the sounds speedily and learning the sounds c and k. Please support you child to practise reading and writing the sounds at home. They could do extra practise on any paper you have at home.
In Maths the children have been comparing and measuringwere and using the language tall, short, long, small and big. The children even drew around their own feet, cut them out and used them to measure the size of different objects around our classroom.
On Thursday the children enjoyed decorating their own Gingerbread Man and were able to eat it at our morning snack cafe.
Next week we will be thinking about the story 'Hansel and Gretel' and using traditional tales to discuss objects from the past, looking at what is different. In Maths we will be talking about measures and patterns and creating our own repeating patterns.
In our class we love to make things out cardboard boxes, tubes, cartons and tubs, if you have any these items in your recycling at home please bring them in for use to reimagine on our making table.
See you next week
