Coral Reef Reflect and Review13 October 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Our story focus has been Hansel and Gretel this week and the children were excited by a house made of sweets that had appeared in our curiosity cube! Our Home Corner had also been turned into a house made of sweets.
The children discovered a note from the witch in the Hansel and Gretel story asking them to leave her a message and she might surprise them with a treat. Lots of children got to work drawing and writing and sure enough, the next day each Key Group had received a small package and inside was a chocolatey treat for everyone! Yum! She must have been a nice witch after all!
We have also enjoyed the milder weather at the beginning of this week and the children have been busy weaving on our basket frames in the garden with coloured fabric and the children have enjoyed games such as 'stuck in the mud' as well as playing with the parachute.
As part of our Story Basket sessions the children listened to an audio version of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' and in drawing club we listened to an alternative version of Hansel and Gretel from Africa.
In Maths we have continued to talk about measures and patterns and we have been comparing weight using balancing scales and creating repeating patterns with our bodies and with musical instruments.
We have also been using our super subitising skills to spot 3 and not 3 in photographs of objects. I wonder if you can spot some 3 or not three things at home, perhaps you could take a photo and email it to us!
Next week as part of our Religious Education sessions we will be thinking about special people; those in our families, role models at school and Special people in Christianity.
On Monday and Tuesday we will also have groups visiting Cowley Library in the morning. Thank you for those parents who have offered to join us.
Have a lovely weekend
