Coral Reef Weekly Reflect and Review

17 November 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

This week we have been learning about Diwali the festival of light.

We watched a program about a little girl who explained how she celebrates Diwali with her friends and family. We learnt about some of the important symbols and rituals such as decorating houses with lights and Diva lamps, creating rangoli patterns and sharing food.

The children have been busy creating their own rangoli patterns and in our key groups we made traditional Indian sweets called Bufi and the children enjoyed trying these at snack time.

In our Drawing Club sessions we have been thinking about 'The Best Diwali Ever!' story.

In Maths the children have begun to learn about circles and triangles and getting to know their properties. We learnt that a circle does not have a side but a continuous curved  line. We went on a shape hunt in our classroom and garden sporting circles and triangles and we created some awesome circle artwork. I wonder if your child could spot some shapes at home?

In phonics we have finished learning all of the single sounds however we will continue to review them so that your child can recognise these speedily. This will support their reading and writing.

We have started to learn songs for our Christmas Nativity show. We will send out further information about this next week! The children have really impressed us with their singing!

Today we enjoying playing with the Anemones Pre-School children in our garden!

Next week our book focus will be 'Winnie the Witch'

As artists we will be exploring black and white and creating some black and white paintings.

In phonics we will begin to learn the special friends sounds sounds. These are sounds which contain two letters but make one sound.

In maths we will continue to learn about 2D shapes and numbers to 5.

Don't forget PE is on Mondays and Thursdays. All child should wear their PE kit to school on these days.

Have a super weekend and see you all next week!

We will continue to learn sounds for our Nativity Show.
