Coral Reef weekly reflect and review

1 December 2023 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

The children enjoyed being scientists this week, making a bubbly magic potion by combining different ingredients!

To make the potion children took turns to add ingredients such as vinegar, washing up liquid and bicarbonate of soda. We explored adding more of each ingredient and observing what happed, the children got really excited when the potion started to fizz and bubble up on its own!
We have continued to rehearse our Christmas Nativity show and the children have really impressed us with their singing and acting skills! You are all in for a real treat! Don’t forget that if you are providing a costume then this needs to be in school by Wednesday 6th December ready for our dress rehearsal! If you are unsure please speak to one of the Coral Reef team.
In maths the children have been learning about the number 5. They used five frames and coloured counters to find all the different ways to make 5 for example 3 red counters and 2 yellow counters.
In phonics we have continued to learn the ‘Special friend sounds’ and we will continue to focus on these so that children can read them speedily. The children have also begun to write simple 3 letter words such as man, mat, mad using Fred fingers to help them spell the words. Perhaps your child could show you at home!
We learnt a poem called ‘Mice’ and drew pictures in Drawing Club linked to the story A Dark, Dark Tale.
Outside the children wanted to create a stage and they have enjoyed taking turns to show off their talents. They were also excited to find ice in our tuff trays and have enjoyed smashing and melting it!
Next week we will be making mini Christmas cakes and beginning some Christmas crafts.
On Thursday it is Christmas Jumper day, for those children who have one and want to wear it, please bring in £1 donation for the Save the Children Charity
Have a lovely weekend whatever you do.
