Coral Reef Reflect and Review12 January 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
The children have had a wonderful start to the new term,. They have all come back excited and ready to learn.
We began the week by attending a church service in school to celebrate Epiphany- this is when Christians celebrate how a star led the Three Kings to visit the baby Jesus after he was born.
We enjoyed our first mindfulness yoga session on Tuesday; following the instructions and holding the different poses. We also had lots of fun developing our pencil grip and control through our pen disco session- this is where we make different movements with pens on paper to pop music. This week it was all about circular movements.
We kick started our new Topic 'Frozen Worlds' by enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows, cuddled up in our blankets as we watched a program about Penguins and Polar Bears on our big screen. The treats were brought to us by a little Penguin called Pip-Pip who arrived with a suitcase and a letter about him and what we needed to do. Pip-Pip will be staying with us in the Coral Reef this term.
In phonics, the children have been practising reading the sounds and writing simple words and some of the children have moved on to reading short stories called Ditties and learning how to compose a sentence linked to the story. Please help your child to practise their reading at home. Today your child has come home with a login for Reading Buddy
In Maths the children have been counting and ordering numbers we have been focusing on learning about numbers to five and recognising zero and amounts that show zero.
In Drawing Club the children have been thinking about the story 'Be Brave Little Penguin' and the children have created some beautiful drawings. This term we are encouraging the children to write labels and sentences to accompany their drawings.
Next week we will be exploring ice and snow and painting with ice. We will be looking at maps and locating where the penguins and polar bears live. We will start to write facts about Penguins in our Arctic Animal Fact Files.
Our focus story will be the fantastic David Walliams story 'Geronimo'.
We have lots of lost gloves and hats in our cloakroom. Please make sure that any hats or gloves that your child has are named, that way we can return them to your child. The children are often unsure what their belongings look like!
Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday
