Coral Reef Reflect and Review26 January 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
We have been continuing to grow our knowledge about Frozen Worlds this week.
We found out about the types of clothes scientists and explorers wear in Antarctica to keep them warm and protected from the extreme cold climate. we thought about the clothing we need to wear in Winter and why, the children then took it in turns to dress up one of their classmates in warm winter clothing.
We talked about what some animals do in Winter to protect themselves from the cold and the children learnt about hibernation and looked at photos of animals that hibernate in Winter.
We went to the Pen Disco and practised making zig-zag marks on paper to support our writing and fine motor.
We learnt a poem about a snowman with a carrot nose- I wonder if your child can retell it to you?
In Drawing Club the the children drew pictures and created magic marks and writing on paper linked to the story 'Penguin'
In our PE dance session we created controlled movements as we pretended to be Arctic Foxes and Robins
In Maths we were measuring weight using the language heavy and light, heaviest and lightest when comparing objects.
Next week we will be visiting the Oxford Ice rink for a skating session in our key groups on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you for all of your payments for this exciting trip.
On our big interactive screen in the classroom we will be observing real Penguins on a live Penguin Camera from a zoo. We will be scientists when exploring the best way to melt ice.
As artisit we will be painting on foil and starting our large 3D Arctic paper animal heads project.
As writers we will be writing facts about Penguins in our fact files.
As musicians we will be learning how to be conductors and controlling when instruments are played and stopped as well as learning to play instruments fast and slow and loud and quite.
Have a great weekend, see you all next week
