    Coral reef Reflect and Review

2 February 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

We had a lot of skating fun at the beginning of the week with our visit to Oxford Ice Rink and we could believe how courageous the children were on the ice! It is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something to do over half term!

In our Drawing Club session the children have been thinking about the wonderful Oliver Jeffers story 'Lost and Found' and today we discovered that our Penguin friend Pip Pip had left us a special Penguin chocolate bar treat which we ate whilst we watched the 'Lost and Found' animation. Pip Pip has now returned back to his home in Antarctica after having a lovely time at school with us.

In Maths we have been measuring again, this time we have been thinking about what capacity means and exploring full, empty and half full when filling different containers with water. We also began learning to count in tens.

In Phonics we have been continuing to practise reading the sounds and using our sound knowledge to write words and sentences.

As artists we started to make our giant newspaper animal heads by drawing around a template and painting them. Next week we will be adding facial detail, using a stapler to join layers of paper together, cutting our animal heads out and stuffing them to make them 3D.

We observed penguins at various different zoos around the world on their live penguin cameras!

Next week we will be having and RE focus and learning about how different faiths celebrate New Year.

In Drawing Club we will be thinking about a story called 'Leaf' all about a Polar Bear. We will be learning how to stay safe online for Internet Safety Week and as scientists we will be finding out about how Penguins feathers are waterproof.

    Enjoy your weekend
