Coral Reef Reflect and Review19 April 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
We have spent this week delving into the wonderful world of bugs and insects and sharing our knowledge as well as learning new facts and information.
Across the week we have been finding out about insects in books and online as well as looking for them in our garden. As scientists we did observation drawings of bugs and have been using our phonics skills to label our drawings. We learnt how to identify an insect by the number of legs and types of body parts it has- I wonder if your child can remember how many legs an insect has?
In Drawing Club we were thinking about the story 'Superworm' drawing Superworm and drawing alternative super hero insects! There were some great ideas from the children.
We are providing further opportunities for the children to develop their sentence writing skills through our English sessions. Our sentences are focused around different plot points in a story book and this week our story has been 'Katie and the Sunflowers.' and we will continue with our writing about this story next week.
As artists we have been creating spiral snails with chalk pastels and creating 3D snails out of paper- I'm sure some of these snails have appeared in book bags!
As Mathematicians we have been playing hiding games with amounts of five and ten to help us get to know our number bonds to five and ten and the children are doing really well with this. We have also been revising our doubles facts and understanding that facts such as '4+4=8' is the same as 'double 4 is 8'. We have been thinking about 'teen' numbers and using 10 frames to understand numbers and number patterns.
Next week we will be thinking about the story the 'Giant Jam Sandwich'. As Scientists we will be thinking about habitats and making 'Bug Hotels' for the creatures in our garden. As artists we will be printing insects using our fingers and adding details with pens. We will be using ipads to take photos and videos of insects we find in our garden.
Thank you for all of the parents who have offered to help on our visit to the museum on Tuesday 30th April . We now have enough helpers!
Have a great weekend and we will see you all next week
