Explorers Weekly Reflect and Review3 May 2024 (by Sereeta Raj-Singh (Sereeta)) |
Another busy week
We began the week by learning the importance of railway safety. The children looked at all the dangers which the railway poses when people trespass on the railway.
During English, we have continued with their sentence stacking and have written some amazing complex sentences using possessive apostrophes and personification. The children also researched the Battle of Corinth. To gain deeper knowledge of how and why it happened.
As mathematicians, Discovery have been working on reasoning questions which require multiple steps to answers in addition to working on translation and co-ordinations in a quadrant. Please support your child to continue their learning at home to help them achieve their very best.
Cook class has revisited fractions and then moved on to decimals, focusing on place value.
In year 5, the children have been finalising their work on angles, as well as recognising and learning to draw regular and irregular polygons and 3D shapes.
During book talk the children are really enjoying reading The Iliad and learning about the epic story of the Trojan War. The children have been practising writing a 50 word summary by comprehending what they have read from the chapter and focusing on skills such as; prediction and retrieval.
In topic, we have looked at the architectural structure of the Ancient Greek buildings to deduce information about the past. We then made a comparison between the Ancient Greek buildings and the buildings we have here such as; the Parthenon and the Sheldonian Theatre. The children finished the week by creating a 5 day program for an Olympic event during Ancient Greek time. Be sure to ask your child what events they had planned including the sports and penalties.
During table tennis the children have practised playing in singles and have shown great hand and ball control.
Next week

As well as focusing on grammar and punctuation knowledge understanding, identifying word classes and applying them in our writing.
