Oceans Weekly Reflect and Review7 June 2024 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy)) |
Summer wk 7 Pacific and Indian: Timed Times Table Challenge: 36 multiplication questions against the clock. Accuracy is always preferable to speed! But how quickly can they can finish the sheet? Arctic: BigMaths CLIC and Learn It's to complete.
It was great to have all the children back for the first week of the final part of this year and, as ever, it’s been a busy one.
This week we’ve been looking at the Jewish faith and the festival of Shavuot. We’ve explored the story of Moses being given the 10 commandments and thought about the rules we apply to our own lives. The children made and decorated their own version of a Mezuzah, and wrote their own thoughts and prayers inside.
It’s also been a week of assessments: reading and maths for everyone and, for the Year 4’s in Indian, the statutory multiplication tables check. Year 4’s in Pacific and Arctic will complete their multiplication tables check next week. Please continue to support your child with recalling table facts. Knowing the times tables (and their associated division facts) is vital to support your child’s mathematical learning and understanding.
With this in mind Indian and Pacific's maths home learning is a Timed Times Table Challenge: 36 multiplication questions against the clock. Accuracy is always preferable to speed! But how quickly can they can finish the sheet?
Arctic have BigMaths CLIC and Learn It's to complete.
Next week, we’ll be taking a look at Renaissance Art including Da Vinci’s anatomical drawings and the Mona Lisa. We’ll be hoping to outside in the sun to play cricket and show off our athletics skills. We’ll also start a new English topic: an adventure story with now words!? and in maths move on from time to look at shapes.
Year 4's were given a letter about swimming in Year 5 with a permission slip which must be returned. We have been lucky enough to secure a bonus swimming session this year on 15th July. All details are in the letter. Some children are beginning to think about the move to Explorers phase, if your child is worried about the transition please do come and speak with us.
Finally, as the weather hopefully improves, please remember that your child needs to have a sun hat and sun cream applied before school, if you provide a bottle in their bag they can reapply.
