Oceans Reflect and Review14 June 2024 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy)) |
Summer Term 2, Week 3 White Rose Maths Home learning: Shape p111.
Taking inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci, Oceans spent the early part of this week looking at Renaissance Art. We created our own modern masterpieces by updating the Mona Lisa and, influenced by Da Vinci’s anatomical drawings and robots, built our own robotic hands.
In maths we’ve been exploring and recapping the concept of angles. Children should now recognise angles as describing the size of a turn and understand greater angles relate to a greater turn. They should be able to compare angles and use the terms “acute” and “obtuse”. We’ll be continuing with geometry next week looking at parallel and perpendicular lines, symmetry and 2d shapes: triangles, polygons and quadrilaterals.

Oceans have also started a new English topic this week: Journey. Picture books, like Journey, are a crucial tool for developing a child's literacy and language skills in their early years, but are often overlooked as children begin to read. It's wonderful helping children to decode the story from clues in the pictures and amazing how this inspires their own imaginative ideas.
Take a look at this version of Journey combined with an orchestral score.
The week ended with fantastic performances from our friends at Somerville College. The choir and individual performers really showed off their musical talents.
Next week we’ll be thinking like geographers and looking at Europe (naming and locating countries and identifying their main physical and human characteristics) and continuing work on Journey.
Year 4: please return permission slips for swimming in transition week, Monday 15th July, and next year. Thank you.
Enjoy the weekend
