Explorers Weekly Reflect and Review5 July 2024 (by Sereeta Raj-Singh (Sereeta)) |
What a busy week!
Discovery had a fantastic time on Tuesday performing their Julius Caesar play. The children have worked collaboratively and showed great resilience and perseverance throughout the performance.
They showed amazing acting skills in which their characters were portrayed with great accuracy. Thank you to all the parents that attended the performance, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
During English, we have almost completed our sentence stacking whilst focusing on a range of punctuation and writing complex sentences.
As Mathematicians, we have continued to calculate what is better value for money by comparing prices and quantities.
As artists,we have drawn self portraits using a variety of drawing techniques whilst taking inspiration from the artists we have previously studied such as: Nijdeka Crosby and Yinka Shonibare.
The children in year 5, have been describing how Captain Scott’s men would have felt at the start of their journey to the South Pole. During Maths, we have been converting units of measurement from kilometres to metres, metres to millimetres, litres to millilitres and Kg to grams.
As Scientists, we have been learning about pulleys. We have understood the difference between a fixed, moveable and compound pulley and how they can help us move things.
Next Week:
In year 6, the children will begin to plan their adventure stories based on the amazon rainforest and using all of our sentences stacking.
In Maths, we will begin to look at 3D net making.
As Artists, we will be creating a background image which represents us, before attaching our self portraits.
In the humanities, we will continue looking at Mount Everest and the journey of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
The children were sent home the parent letter for the Oxford Song project, please make sure you have responded to the parent letter as there are a limited number of tickets available.
Year 5 will be consolidating their learning from the year, using all of their writing skills and topic knowledge to create their own diary entry of Shackleton. In maths we’ll be finishing off our unit of measures and thinking about capacity and volume. In topic we’ll be making our own pulleys and putting them to the test!
