    Oceans Reflect and Review

5 July 2024 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy))

Summer term, Maths home learning - WhiteRose p118

In Oceans this week, we’ve been exploring how every sound we hear is made by an object vibrating and making the air around it vibrate as well. We discovered that vibrations can travel through solids and liquids as well as air; in fact, sound waves travel faster through a solid and a liquid than air. We discussed how TV and films have it wrong when they include the sounds of spaceships travelling or battling in space, as sound cannot travel through a vacuum at all.

In Maths we’ve been looking at statistics: interpreting tables, charts and pictograms and drawing our own bar and line graphs to visually represent data (taking care to ensure that we label the axes correctly). We’ve learned to solve comparison, sum and difference problems and compare data.

Next week is, unbelievably, the final week in our current classes. Moving classes, and for some entering a whole new phase, can be difficult for some children. If your child is worried about the transition please do come and speak with us. A few children from Key Stage 1 have popped upstairs this week for a pre-visit and to get the lay of the land. Turns out (slightly disappointingly) that the Oceans phase is not as big as they thought it would be!

    Have a lovely weekend.
