Explorers Weekly Reflect and Review12 July 2024 (by Sereeta Raj-Singh (Sereeta)) |
Another busy week
Year 6 have been working incredibly hard to practise their performance for Oxford Song, which is sounding amazing! As you are aware the performance will take place on Wednesday 17th July at the Ultimate Picture Palace . Thank you to all the parents who have completed and returned their parent letter, we are looking forward to seeing you there.
In English the children have written their adventure stories which are based in the Amazon rainforest. We have used our planning whilst following on our success criteria and using our spelling, punctuation and grammar knowledge.
As Geographers, we have written a series of diary entries from the perspective of Edmund Hillary and Tenzay Norgay. Be sure to ask your child what they included in their diary entries such as, what each climber left on the top of Mount Everest and why they did this.
As artists, we have completed our self portraits and designed a background which represents us. Each piece is inspired by how we see ourselves and the message we want to give to others. The children have used a variety of techniques to add interesting effects such as: reflections, shadows and direction of sunlight.
Year 5, have written their own diary entries, writing as Shackleton exploring on the Endeavour in 1914. The children have worked incredibly hard, creating fabulous entries.
In Maths, year 5 have looked at volume this week, what this means and how to measure the volume of 3D shapes. In DT we made pulleys, pulley systems and cog systems. We enjoyed having a go, even though our ideas didn't always work. We discussed the importance of things not going to plan, understanding why they didn't work, and how to improve them, thinking both practically and technically.
Reports have gone home with the children today and a copy will be emailed to all parents. Please celebrate your children's learning with them, as they have worked really hard throughout the year and now are really to take on new challenges.
