This week in Explorers

Thank you to all parents who attended the parent meeting on Thursday!

Thanks for being patient with the technology. The slides are now on the website and can be found here. 

As mathematicians we have been continuing to work on place value, ordering numbers and adding and subtracting multiples of 10,100,1000,10,000.

As writers, Endeavour have been working on sentence stacking following the story of The Hobbit. Discovery have begun learning about Everest, finding out about the Tenzing Norgay, Edmund Hillary and Ranulph Finnes, who wrote the foreword in the book we are reading. In Beagle and Aegean we have been looking at Characters in stories and understanding the emotions they are feeling.

As Artists Endeavour and Discovery have continued to look at Typography, looking at self portraits in map form taking inspiration from Grayson Perry.

As Geographers and Artists Beagle and Aegean have been looking at the structure of a volcano and showing this in art from, taking inspiration from Margaret Godfrey.

In PE this week Discovery have started to look at the skills they need to play Lacrosse.

Next Week

Monday year 5 are going swimming please make sure they have their FULL kit (Swimming costume, Towel, Goggles)

Discovery and Endeavour are moving onto Geography and looking at identifying the physical and human features of Volcanoes and Mountains.

Beagle and Aegean are moving onto science looking at characteristics and DNA.

Homelearning

As discussed during the parent meeting on Thursday all classes are expected to complete 60 minutes on Sumdog each week and read for 15 minutes every day.

In addition each class has the following:

Endeavour – White Rose Book week 2 and one reading plus task each day.

Beagle – sumdog challenge has been set. If you can’t log in we will help your child on Monday with this. To support Beagle we will be completing this weeks White Rose tasks together, preparing them to bring them home at a later point.

Discovery – Reading plus needs to be done, one task every day.
