Coral Reef Reflect and Review27 September 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
It has been a busy and wet week in the Coral Reef Class with the children enjoying playing outside in the wet weather!
We have continued with our learning through the Terrific Tales Topic. This week our focused story was 'The Magic Porridge Pot' and in Drawing Club the children drew pictures of the little old lady and drew pictures of what they would include in their magic potion and what other food might appear from the magic pot- ice cream was a popular choice! The children also showed excellent listening skills when listening to an audio version of the story.
In our key groups, the children helped make Porridge for our morning snack. Some of the children thought the Porridge was delicious, others weren't so sure.
In PE we did the wiggle dance with our Flipper Flapper scarves and made wiggle patterns on paper- this is to develop children's gross and fine motor skills ready for writing. The children also participated in a 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears Yoga Story' following the different moves and yoga poses.
As mathematicians, the children have been recognising object amounts 1-5 without counting and learning 1+1=2. The children have enjoyed finding and sorting objects by, shape, colour and function just like the character Frankie in the story 'All Sorts'. We have been encouraging children to verbalise why something has been sorted a particular way.
On Wednesday we went to the Dough Disco and the children had lots of fun dancing with their playdough to the music. This is another way we support hand strength for writing and holding writing tools.
The children have been working hard in our daily Phonics lessons. This week the children learnt the sounds p,g,o. Please continue to help your child practise writing and saying the sound at home using their green phonics book. Using magnetic letter tiles, the children have also been making and reading different words such as man, at, and mad using their 'Fred Talk'.
Part of the children's learning and exploring in the Early Years means that children get messy or wet. Therefore we ask that all children always have some clothes in a bag to change into. Clothing does not need to be a school uniform. Thank you.
There are still a few children without welly boots for outside play. Please provide these as soon as you can.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.
