    Autumn Week 4

We started the week with the saying: there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. However, the sheer volume of rain that fell this week may have tested that idea.

As the weather gets colder and wetter please ensure that your child is suitably dressed: a warm (ideally waterproof) coat, hat and gloves. We also ask that all children have indoor shoes for use in school. These can be any type, slippers and crocs work really well as the children can easily slip them on and off.

This week, we had a visit from Oxford Song to help us finalise the lyrics to our Ashmolean inspired songs about Ancient Egypt. Oxford Song will return next week to help us compose the melodies. We’ll be thinking about the high and low pitched sounds as well as rhythm.

In geography we’ve been exploring the UK, locating and naming countries as well as capital cities. Indian Class also had the opportunity to take part in Oxford University’s Curiosity Cube. The children had an amazing time, learning about sustainable practices and how we can all contribute to protecting the planet. They also designed and tested a windmill that produces enough renewable energy to power a model t-shirt factory.

    Home learning this week:

Maths: WhiteRose Workbooks, Indian and Pacific: Week 3 p10-12 Arctic: Week 4 p13-15

Sumdog: Sumdog helps build mathematical fluency through games. All children should know their login details. Please ask if they are unsure.

Reading: comics, magazines, adventure stories, myths and legends, sports, picture books and graphic novels, funny stories or fantasy reading: there is a ‘book’ for everyone. Encourage reading every day.

Next Thursday, 3rd October, is National Poetry Day! The children in KS2 will be taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the most students taking part in a poetry lesson. Watch this space!
