    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

4 October 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

This week we have been thinking about the stories 'The Gingerbread Man' and the alternative version 'The Stinky Cheeseman' which the children found hilarious!

At the beginning of the week, the children worked hard to decorate a gingerbread man-shaped biscuit with coloured icing. We listened and watched a musical version of the story and enjoyed joining in with the song. The children ate their Gingerbread man for a morning snack.

In our Drawing Club sessions the children drew the Gingerbread Man and the Stinky Cheese man and thought about what might happen if they touched the Stinky Cheeseman! The children wrote magic marks to accompany their drawings and used their imagination to describe what the magic mark might do to their picture.

In PE the children created arched movements in the air and on paper as part of our Squiggle While You Wiggle session.

As Mathematicians the children have continued to recognise amounts to 5 without counting and noticing smaller amounts in groups of objects for example noticing in a group of three that there can be a group of two and a group of one. We have also been comparing the size of objects and used connecting cubes to measure our feet. We learnt about estimation and had a go at estimating how many objects would fit in different-sized containers.

We learnt a poem called 'Cup of Tea' I wonder if your child can retell the poem at home?

In Phonics we learnt the sound 'c' and learnt the letter formation rhyme 'curl around the caterpillar' to help us write the sound correctly. Each day we have been practising all the sounds to make sure we know the sounds well. We have been using our 'Fred Talk' to say, make and read words containing the sounds we know and we are very proud of the children's efforts with this.

We enjoyed bug hunting, painting with chalks and playing in the mud at forest school.

To support the children in their phonics progress we have sent home some words for them to practise with you, please support them to do this.

A reminder that payment for the Theatre show needs to be in by 15th October.

We hope you have a lovely weekend
