    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

11 October 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

It has been another super week at school. This week our Golden Rule focus was 'We Work Hard' with Michael, Femi and Jayden being awarded 'Behaviour Heroes' of the week

In other news, we have been thinking about the story' Hansel and Gretel' We learnt some new vocabulary such as wicked, scary and swish! We designed and drew houses made of sweets just like in the story. We drew pictures of tricks or treats the witch in the story might have in her pot and drew a new pet for her. There were some brilliant ideas from dolphins, to snakes and even rainbow cats!

The children have been making excellent progress in phonics. This week we learnt to say and write the sounds c,k,u, b and reviewed all the sounds learnt so far. The children have worked hard to segment and blend the sounds using 'Fred Talk' when making and reading words using magnetic letter tiles. Thank you for supporting your child in reading the words we sent home and writing the sounds in their phonics book.

As part of our maths learning we have been using our knowledge of shapes to create 2D and 3D models and pictures this week.

As part of our physical development, the children took part in an exciting PE session with sports coach Matt where they had the opportunity to develop ball skills, controlled body movements and teamwork! It was lots of fun!

We learned an Autumnal poem called 'Leaves are Falling' we know all the words and actions so we can show you at home.

As designers, we have been learning how to use split pins to make moving joints for gingerbread men characters and we have been developing our scissor skills by cutting out the different body parts.

Next Week we will be thinking about the story 'Cinderella' ready for the visiting Theatre Show on the 25th October.

We will learn and perform a new poem called 'Mice'. We will look around our school grounds for signs of autumn and make leaf prints on our art table.

In Maths, we will begin to learn about numbers 1, 2, and 3 developing a deep understanding of the oneness of one and the twoness of two etc.

As Musicians we will listen to the musical story 'The Enormous Turnip' and in our key groups we will make Turnip Soup.

As Historians we will be using traditional stories such as Cinderella to look at changes in how we live, the things we use in our homes and the clothes we wear.

    Notices and reminders:

Payment for the Visiting Theatre  Show is due next week. Please send payment in a named envelope.

On Friday 25th Oct we will be having a non-school uniform day please bring in a  £1 donation to raise money for school funds.

Parent meetings are being held on Wednesday after school. If you would like a face-to-face meeting in school please book a slot online using the MCAS app. If you prefer a phone call just let your child's Key Person know, we will be doing phone call appointments from 4.40pm.

    Enjoy the weekend
