Coral Reef Reflect and Review18 October 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
It has been a week filled with Turnips and Glass slippers as the children have explored the stories The Enormous Turnip and Cinderella. The children have been captivated by both stories.
As Musicians we watched the Musical story of The Enormous Turnip and on Tuesday the children held a real turnip and helped to prepare vegetables to make our own turnip soup. As the soup cooked in the soup maker, our classroom was filled with a delicious smell! At snack time the children were able to try it, with mixed responses!
We have enjoyed the unusually warm weather and some of the children have enjoyed dressing up in masks and princess dresses and performing on our stage in the garden.
In phonics, we have continued to practise reviewing and blending the sounds to read simple words and we learnt to say and write the new sound 'f'. The children have a new homework sheet with new words for them to practise reading using their 'Fred Talk' Please help them to do this.
In Poetry Basket we learnt a poem called 'Mice'.
We went to the Dough Disco with Helen and made movements with our dough to music to support our hand and finger strength.
In Drawing Club we drew Cinderella, we thought about what other things could be turned into a coach if there was no pumpkin and we designed a new wand for the Fairy Godmother.
As artists, we used paint to create beautiful leaf prints with autumn leaves.
To develop our fine motor we have been decorating Conkers with chalk pens.
Next week is our Religious Education focus week. As part of our learning, we will think about What Makes People Special, focusing on Judaism and Christianity.
We are excited about the 'Glass Slipper' Theatre show that will be in school on Friday. If you have not yet paid please do so next week the cost is £6.70. It is also non-school uniform on this day and children can bring in a £1 donation to raise funds for school.
The Great ARCh Book Giveway is happening this Saturday at St Mary's Church Hall in Iffley from 1.30 to 3.30
Assisted Reading For Children (ARch) are giving away ARCh books (hoping for some monetary donations!).
These are hardback and large books which are not suitable for boxes plus some games. Please do visit them if you can.
The children can receive a FLU immunisation at school on Wednesday. Please complete your child's consent via the QR code on the letter sent home today.
A few weeks back parents were given a Home-School agreement for you to sign and return to school. There are several of these agreement forms still outstanding. Please return these by the end of the term. If you need a new form please let us know.
Enjoy your weekend
