For the final week of this term, we’ve been thinking about commitment and self-discipline. In our classes we have committed to regularly stopping and performing a series of exercises five times a day. While everyone has enjoyed this it has also enabled us to explore more fully our RE week question: ‘does praying at regular intervals help Muslims in their everyday lives?’

It’s been amazing this week discussing the Muslim faith with children. Lots of our children have been able to share with their classmates details of how the Muslim faith shapes their daily lives as well as demonstrate prayer and talk articulately about their beliefs and customs. Children teaching other children is such a power learning tool.

In maths we’ve continued to explore addition and subtraction and begun to use the formal column written method to add two numbers with up to four digits. To support this children need to be secure in their number bonds to 20 (eg. 7+6=13 / 13-6=7). Please try to find opportunities to ask your children to do this type of maths questions and help them develop fluency in addition and subtraction facts. Next term, we’ll move to multiplication and division.

Home learning:

Reading: comics, magazines, adventure stories, myths and legends, sports, picture books and graphic novels, funny stories or fantasy reading: there is a ‘book’ for everyone. Encourage reading every day. Read to them. Read together.

We have been invited to sing at two events next term; one is in school time, the other is at University College Oxford on Thursday 5th December at around 6pm. If you would like your child to participate and can commit to bringing them to the concert on Thursday 5th December please email oceans@stfrideswides.co.uk to register your interest. We will hold rehearsals during school time.
