Coral Reef Reflect and Review15 November 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
We have been thinking about Remembrance, wellbeing and caring for each other throughout this week.
To help us learn about remembrance we watched a beautiful wordless animation called 'Poppies' We learnt about the significance of poppies and the children had lots of questions which we sensitively answered such as 'why are there wars?' We were able to link back to our mindfulness session which had been focused on how we can care for each other to create harmony in our classroom.
We looked further at the story animation through our Drawing Club and the children started to write a simple word for the 'magic mark' part of their drawing and using their imagination to say what the magic mark in their drawing would do.
This week we introduced 'Helicopter Stories' Helicopter Story sessions involve adults scribing stories from children and supporting them to act out their narratives. It facilitates Early Years Communication and Language development in a fun and creative way and it brought us lots of joy this week!
As part of our well-being focus the children listened to the Anthony Browne story 'Silly Billy'. This helped the children to explore ways that they can manage worries. They were able to create their very own worry doll just like in the story to take care of any worries they might have.
in Maths we have continued to use our subitising skills to notice amounts to five. We have continued to learn our double facts such as 1+1=2, 2+2=3 and 3+3=6. We have been developing a deep understanding of numbers 1, 2 and 3 and learning that number are made up of other numbers (Part/Whole).
In Phonics we learned how to read and write two new sounds. We practised reading cvc words using our 'Fred Talk' to say each sound and blend them together- we have seen improved progress from all of the children. Please support your child to continue read the sounds in their green phonics book and to read the words on sheet sent home, the more practise they have the easier it will become.
As artists we created different shades by mixing a primary coloured paint with black or white and enjoyed creating our own master pieces using different sized paint brushes.
We started to learn the words and actions for our Christmas Nativity Show 'Shine Star, Shine!'
Today we learnt who Pudsey Bear is and how he cares for others- we enjoyed developing our fine motor skills by covering leaves Pudsey style with spotty stickers!
Next week we will be looking at the exciting lift-the-flap book 'What's in the Witches Kitchen' The children will be making fizzy potions as part of our topic time and writing ingredients for a witches potion.
As artists, the children will create wax relief paintings. As Mathematicians, we will find out the properties of circles and triangles.
It is road safety week so the children will be learning about ways to stay safe when walking close to roads and crossing them.
We will continue to learn songs and actions for our Christmas Nativity Show.
