This week in Explorers

As writers:

Endeavour have been completing their sentence stacking for “Escape of Pompeii”.

Discovery have been writing speech and thought bubbles from the perspectives of Hillary and Norgay, the night before they reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Beagle and Aegean have been developing our use of poetry techniques, creating our own Kennings, creating our own underwater creature and beginning to create our own poetry about them.

As mathematicians:

Endeavour have been working on fractions, developing their understanding of mixed and improper fractions.

Discovery have been continuing with subtraction, using 4 and 5digit numbers, focusing on borrowing and exchanging.

Beagle have been working on division, dividing by 10, 100, 1000 and by 1 digit numbers using our times tables knowledge.

As geographers and historians:

Beagle have been looking Italy, and the mountain ranges, before beginning to explore the events of the 79AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Discovery have been drawing upon a range of historical sources to create their own extended writing pieces.

Endeavour have been looking at mountain formations, and developing their use of google slides to create presentations.

Reminders:

Monday 25th and Monday 2nd there is no swimming or sailing for year 5. They will resume on Monday 9th December.

Saturday 30th November - Open Day 9am-11am. Please join us for our open day, bringing along any friends/family/neighbours, especially those who may be looking at schools for their children.

Wednesday 4th December - 101 Dalmatian’s trip. Letters for this went out this week. Please return the permission slips, with how you will collect your child clearly marked, as soon as possible. Thank you.
