Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review6 December 2024 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
A wonderful week in anemones!
We developed our cutting skills on the creative table as the children created their own lanterns! Using scissors, they carefully cut out straight lines on paper, learning about precision and control. We used junk modelling to create a fantastic gingerbread house. Using recycled materials, glue, and a variety of craft supplies, they designed their house! We also created pictures of our best friends, focusing on drawing faces, while talking about what makes a good friend. They discussed how friends share, help each other, are kind, and play together!
In the tuff tray, we had a fantastic time working on fine motor skills by using tweezers to pick up insects placed between a spider web! The children carefully used the tweezers to grab and move the insects without disturbing the web, which was great for strengthening their hand-eye coordination and pincer grip.
The home corner became a buzzing kitchen where the children used pinecones as food items! They pretended to cook meals and serve them to each other, using their creativity to imagine different dishes. This activity encouraged social interaction, role-playing, and language development as the children negotiated roles and shared ideas about food.
In maths, the children worked on counting skills using their fingers and fish. They practised counting from 1 to 10, using their fingers to represent the numbers, and matched the correct number of fish to the corresponding number. This hands-on activity reinforced number recognition and counting skills in a fun, interactive way.
In phonics this week, we sang the song "The Toy Train," and the children absolutely loved it! They joined in with the catchy tune and mimicked the actions of the toy train moving along the track. This helped develop their listening and rhythm skills while reinforcing early phonemic awareness.
It’s been a week full of creativity, teamwork, and fun learning experiences. We look forward to another exciting week ahead!
Spare clothes – if you have any spare clothes borrowed from school, we kindly ask you to bring them back in as we are running low on supplies.
Christmas stay and play! – Thursday 19th December at 2pm.
We are delighted to invite you to our special Christmas Stay and Play! Please join us at 2pm to watch the children perform the Christmas songs they’ve been working so hard on. They’ve put so much effort into practising, and we can’t wait to share their festive spirit with you! After the performance, we’ll continue the celebration with fun Christmas craft activities for everyone to enjoy. If your child attends in the morning only, we would be absolutely thrilled for you to come and join us at 2pm. The children have been loving the Christmas songs, and it would be wonderful to have them there to take part in the festive cheer. We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating together!
Have a lovely weekend!
