Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review10 January 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
This term, our topic is Frozen Worlds. The children will explore animals that live in the cold, like penguins and polar bears, and learn about hibernation. We’ll also compare the Arctic and Antarctic and which animals live there.
This week, we’ve started our exciting journey exploring Frozen Worlds! The children have been learning about snowy animals, hibernating creatures, and the differences between the Arctic and Antarctic. We’ve been discussing how some animals stay warm in the snow while others hibernate, and the children have enjoyed discovering the wonders of these icy environments.
In Maths, we focused on counting. The children’s favourite activity was pretending to be penguins and practising their counting skills by giving each other fish.
At the Tuff Tray, we continued our exploration of animals that hibernate. The children had a great time playing with a variety of animal plushies, and learning about which creatures sleep through the winter.
In the Water Tray, we explored the sensations of hot and cold. The children experimented with warm water (just the right temperature!) and cold water filled with ice cubes. They loved feeling the contrast between the two and observing how the ice melted.
At the Creative Table, we embraced the winter wonderland theme! The children had so much fun cutting out snowflakes with scissors, using their fine motor skills to create delicate designs. They also experimented with ice paint, creating frosty artwork that sparkled with glitter. We made ice sheets for our class display, adding a magical touch to our classroom using white paint and glitter.
Warm clothes -
As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child has spare clothes, warm gloves, and a hat for outdoor play. We also recommend providing waterproof gloves if possible, so the children can comfortably play in the water during colder weather.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
