Explorers reflect and review10 January 2025 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
A great first week back!
We have had a great first week back, engaging in our learning well.
As writers:
Beagle have begun to look at playscripts, looking at how stories can be made into scripts and the key features that they need.
Discovery have started looking at Kensuke’s Kingdom, focusing on description and actions while sentence stacking.
Endeavour have been planning to write a speech from the perspective of Edmund Hillary at the unveiling of the statute of Tenzing Norgay, while working on identifing word classes in
As Mathematicians:
Beagle have been working on multiplication. We have looked at different methods that can be used to solve 2 digit x 2 digit numbers.
Endeavour have been completing work on fractions, focusing on subtracting mixed numbers.
Discovery have been comparing and ordering fractions less than and greater than one whole.
As Geographers we have begun our new topic area: Tsunamis. We have explored what a tsunami is and how they are formed. We have been using maps and atlases to locate key places and features. We will be looking into some of the largest tsunamis in living history, the damage caused and the lessons learnt.
In Wellness Wednesday we looked at positive emotions, particularly focusing on gratitude. Each class created a chain of gratitude (a paper chain on which each piece is written something we are grateful for), which we will be attaching all together to create a complete chain as a school.
Next week:
There is no swimming next week for year 5. Swimming will resume on the 20th January. Sailing is taking place on Monday.
We will be taking part in an NSPCC workshop on Wednesday, focusing on their “Speak Out, Stay Safe” campaign.
Attendance:
As we have returned to school this term, there has been a higher number of absences than normal. Year 5 and 6 attendance this week was at only 91%, with national expectation being a minimum of 93%. Take a look at this weeks picture to see just how much learning time is missed through simply being late. School opens at 8:10 with learning starting in classrooms at 8:20.
Thank you to everyone who has been in all this week.
