    Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review

    Spring 1 Week 4

This week in nursery, we focused on developing fine motor skills, creativity, and early numeracy.

At the water tray, the children enjoyed cleaning dirty animals with toothbrushes, engaging in sensory play while building their fine motor control. This activity helped improve hand-eye coordination and encouraged careful, focused work.

On the creative table, the children worked on cutting strips of paper along black lines, helping them strengthen their scissor skills. We explored animals that hibernate, particularly hedgehogs. The children watched a video about hedgehogs, and then engaged in sticking activities using different materials.

The tuff tray provided a sensory-rich environment where children practised mark-making with a range of materials such as chalk, paint and flour. They also enjoyed cleaning chalk marks with paintbrushes and water, and experimenting with the textures and effects of each material.

In maths, the children built bridges using blocks, small animals, and lollipop sticks. They focused on selecting appropriate shapes, like flat surfaces for stability and balanced the lollipop sticks so the animals could cross. We also built towers with blocks. After building, the children counted how many blocks they used, reinforcing early counting skills and we had a competition to see who could build the tallest tower!

On the playdough table, children used playdough to form numbers, supporting both fine motor skills and early number recognition. This activity encouraged tactile learning and allowed children to practice shapes and number formation.

NELI - This week’s NELI focus was “Don’t Wake Up the Tiger,” where children practised communication and language skills and learned special words like stroke, worry, float, and hurry. These words were integrated into play and conversation, enriching their vocabulary.

Overall, it was a week full of hands-on exploration, creative activities, and skill-building!

We hope you have a great weekend!
