Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review7 February 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Spring 1 Week 5
In maths this week, we focused on 1-to-1 correspondence, helping the children develop their understanding of matching numbers to objects.
In phonics, we continued to explore body percussion by learning a song with actions. The children also listened to the story Dear Sun, Dear Moon, and by the end of the week, they were able to answer all the questions related to the story!
On the playdough table, the children had the opportunity to use various tools to create shapes with playdough, fostering creativity and fine motor skills.
In our tuff tray we explored, a small world activity featuring various people helped the children talk about and explore the differences between individuals, encouraging discussions about diversity.
On the creative table, on Monday and Thursday, the children worked on self-portraits, looking in mirrors to compare features such as eye colour, hair colour, and skin tone, highlighting our differences. On Tuesday, they enjoyed number stamping with paint, and on Wednesday, the children engaged in cutting and sticking activities using pictures from magazines. On Friday, they made handprint polar bears, adding a personal touch to their artwork.
In the sand tray, the children participated in number hunting, searching for numbers 1-10 using sieves, rakes, and spades, making this a fun and interactive learning experience.
NELI - Our focus book for the week was The Three Little Pigs. The special words introduced were: build, blow, hungry, and angry. The children learned the meanings of these words and reinforced their understanding through different activities. We blew feathers, spoke about feeling hungry and angry, and had a competition to see who could build the tallest tower!
