Explorers reflect and review10 March 2025 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
We learnt lots about plants in the rainforest and how they have adapted for the conditions, and used our artistic skills sketching the plants in Botanic Gardens.
We had a great week in Explorers last week, with lots of learning and trips out.
As writers:
Discovery have finished writing their diary entries and we will now be focusing on writing a non- fiction text about a Black Guillemot. We will be looking at the features of a non- fiction text, focusing on the structure and organisation and the language features which are needed.
Endeavour have started our unit on Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo, learning more about the author and the impact of the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004.
In Beagle, we have been developing our descriptions, using expanded noun phrases and exploring adverbs.
As mathematicians:
Discovery have been looking at the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes as well as looking at square and cubed numbers. Please encourage your child to complete their sumdog homework on a weekly basis, which will continue to consolidate their learning.
Endeavour and Beagle have continued their unit on decimals, exploring equivalent fractions and decimals.
As scientists:
Our visit to Botanic Gardens put our growing knowledge about biomes into context. Beagle particularly enjoyed testing “the drip tip” on the rainforest plants. The children in Endeavour have built their own model biomes, working together in a team.
Discovery has had another great secession with Climate Ed. This week we have been looking at the choices we make when things and the impact this has on climate.
We are going to be conducting a mental health survey as part of the OxWell Student Survey. The children have brought home an information letter about this, which is also attached here.
Parent/Care Survey
We are really interested in hearing from you as parents and carers about your and your children's experience of our school. We would be grateful if you would fill out this very short questionnaire. The information we collect will help us inform decisions about the school so we can better support you and your children to fulfill our vision of meeting children where they are on their learning journeys.
Thanks,
St Frideswide Governing Body
The school governors are appointed by Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust who run St Frideswide. We focus on strategy, policy, budgeting, and ethos working alongside senior leaders and supporting teachers to try and make St Frideswide the best school we can make it.
