Spring 2 Week 3
We have had a busy week filled with fun and creativity!
In maths, we explored length and height. We compared the heights of different objects, ordered animals by height, measured with rulers and even made a height chart to see who was the tallest. We have also been using the vocabulary tall and short throughout the week in our Plan and Do time. We also loved the Tall and Short song by Jack Hartman!
In Phonics, we continued focusing on rhyme, learning about words that sound similar. We played odd one out and matching rhymes games, along with our Write dance song: Merry-Go-Round. Some of our rhyming words were: ring and king, boat and coat, and pen and hen!
At the Playdough Table, we used zoo animal mats with coloured playdough, allowing children to explore textures and strengthen their fine motor skills. The children loved exploring the shapes they could make and put on the animal mats.
The Tuff Tray had a fine motor focus this week. We used tweezers and tongs to pick up pom-poms, balls and bugs, encouraging precision and control. At the end of the week, we added bubbly water to make it even more exciting!
The Creative Table was filled with exciting activities! We created clay-modelled animals, cut and stuck our own zoos, made handprint camels, and crafted giraffes and dogs. These activities helped develop scissor skills and creative expression. We had many conversations hearing about everyone’s experiences with the zoo!
In the Sand Tray, we combined zoo animals with sand play, allowing children to dig, explore, and choose the right tools for their plans.
For NELI this week, our book focus was How to Look After Your Dinosaur. We learned our special words: tired, shy, hatch, and pet. We embedded this learning through fun activities, like sleeping lions, watching a chick hatch and talking about our pets!
It was a fantastic week of learning and fun, and we can’t wait for more adventures next week!
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
