Spring 2, Week 3
This week we have finished writing our own poems. Following a simple four-line rhyming scheme (ABCB) the children have worked really hard to use metaphor and personification in their writing, as well as being creative with their word choices and language.
In Maths we’ve continued to look at fractions. This week we’ve been counting beyond a whole and looking at fractions greater than 1. We’ve partitioned mixed numbers into its whole and fractional parts and compared them: recognising that the greater the whole number, the greater the mixed number. From this learning we’ve explored mixed numbers as improper fractions – a fraction where the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator.
In science, chemistry, we’ve been looking at states of matter. We’ve discovered the differences between solids, liquids and gases: looking closely at how their particles behave. We’ve investigated changing states, learning about the processes of boiling, freezing, evaporation and condensation. We've made and marvelled at non-Newtonian fluids that don't behave like liquids or solids. And, much more excitingly, we’ve turned double cream into butter and ice cream!
Next week we’ll be looking into mass and capacity in maths and delving into the Tudor period. Telling the story of Sir Francis Drake and, as artists, we’ll take inspiration from historical portraits. As well as creating our own we will explore how royal portraits were used to present and manage a monarch’s image.
Have a great weekend
