Explorers reflect and review 14.3.2517 March 2025 (by Beth Taylor (Beth)) |
A great week in Explorers! Here Beagle are acting out scenes from the story to support their character development.
As writers Discovery have been researching information about the Black Guillemot in order to create a non - fiction text. We have found a number of interesting facts about the Black Guillemet such as, it goes through seasonal changes. Be sure to ask your child what facts they have found to be most interesting. Endeavour have been busy sentence stacking Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo, exploring metaphor and similes. Beagle have been working on how to convey character emotions through thought and dialogue. We have been acting out scenes and developing this in story writing.
As mathematicians Discovery have started their new unit of statistics and have been drawing lines and plotting coordinates onto line graphs. Next week we will continue with this unit and will be focusing on reading and interpreting data on tables. Endeavour have been continuing their work on decimals and will be exploring rounding within decimals next week. In Beagle we have been looking at thousandths as fractions and decimals and using our place value knowledge to order decimals.
As geographers, Beagle have been finalising our work on Biomes, looking at adaptations, and what happens if just one species vanishes from the ecosystem. For next week we would be very grateful for any cardboard boxes (cereal/pizza boxes etc) as we begin the art unit.
As artists and designers, Endeavour have been exploring the work of Lubaina Himid, have scaled up a 2D silhouette onto cardboard and will be using collage to cover it next week. If you have any child suitable magazines or newspapers, we would gladly appreciate them for our collage!
Next week:
All of the year 6 children are sitting a mock Sats week. This is their final practice week before the actual sats in May. We will be running this week as close to sats timings as possible therefore, please make sure your child is in school on time, to ensure they have enough time to set themselves ready and relaxed for the tests. Please encourage and support your child to do the homework as revision and preparation ahead of next week. Thank you for your support.
Endeavour will be visiting Magdalen College on Thursday to meet Thomas Taylor who wrote the 'Eerie-on-Sea’ series. Children will be able to buy a book at a discounted price from a pop-up Blackwells shop - please see the notices page for more details. The trip will take place during the school day and the children will have lunch on their return.
