Coral Reef Reflect and Review21 March 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
This week our Monster visitor has been well-behaved; he left us a note with a challenge- to write about some of his monster friends and he had left us some pictures of them.
In Drawing Club, the children enjoyed watching the animated TV programme 'Trap Door', where Berk, the central character and servant to the master of the castle, carelessly opens the trap door in the ancient castle's cellar which allows some monsters to escape. They thought about the story setting by drawing and labelling the castle, they drew monsters and wrote about them and used their imagination to draw something new for the master’s breakfast.
To develop our fine motor and pencil control skills we went to the 'Pen Disco' and had fun drawing circles to music.
As artists, we have been exploring printing and creating shadow puppets using our ideas and drawing around stencils. Next week we will use our puppets to create shadow puppet shows for our friends.
As writers, we have used phonics skills to describe our wonderful clay monster sculptures when writing captions.
As Mathematicians, we have been revisiting our number bonds to five- the children need to know these securely by the end of the reception year, we have been using 5 frames and counters to support our understanding. We have been learning about measuring time and using the vocabulary first’, ‘then’, ‘next’, ‘after’, and ‘finally’ when sequencing and ordering times of the day and instructions. We took part in a fun challenge performing different tasks in 1 minute.
Our Poetry basket provided a new poem called Stepping Stones, which the children have been performing with actions. Next week we will be learning a Poem for Mother’s Day.
Next week:
we will be thinking about our history and how we have changed by looking at photographs of ourselves as babies/toddlers and we will be looking at the story ‘Once There Were Giants’
As writers, we will write Mother’s Day Cards and continue our Monster descriptions.
As artists, we will blow coloured ink with straws to create giant monster paintings.
Don't forget to email us a photo of your child as a baby/toddler for us to look at as part of our history learning.
Please use the sign-up sheet outside the classroom to let us know if you can come to our Mother’s Day Tea.
