    Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review

21 March 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

    Spring 2 Week 4

In maths this week, we explored the concept of heavy and light. Using scales, we compared the weights of various objects, including animals, pine cones, sticks, feathers, and pasta. We experimented by holding heavy objects and noticed that some were difficult to lift and even made our arms tired! We also searched around the classroom to find and compare heavy and light objects. To extend our learning, we used water and buckets on a large scale and even made playdough cakes to see whose creation was the heaviest or lightest!

This week in phonics, we continued our exploration of rhymes. Our Write Dance song was Kringeli Krangeli, and we learned some new rhyming pairs, including gate and plate, leg and peg, and man and van!

In the tuff tray, the children explored weighing different objects, including animals, rice, and stones, using scales. This activity encouraged them to compare weight while discussing what they observed.

On the creative table, we created detailed observational drawings of various zoo animals, including elephants, lions, and giraffes. We also made our lion masks using paper plates and had fun with number printing using paint. Additionally, we explored painting animal patterns, such as giraffe spots, zebra stripes, and elephant textures. These activities developed our fine motor skills as we practised using one-handed tools and equipment.

On the playdough table, the children enjoyed exploring playdough with animal mats, choosing from a variety of tools to enhance their fine motor skills.

This week’s story was When a Dragon Goes to School. Our special words were begin, kind, share, and wrap. We talked about how we start our day at home and in nursery, sharing our routines and experiences. We also had many thoughtful discussions about the importance of being kind and sharing with others.
