This week in maths, we introduced the concept of capacity by exploring empty, full, and partially full objects. The children used water, pasta, pom-poms, and bottle lids to investigate how different materials filled jars, cups, and measuring tubes. They enjoyed experimenting with pouring, scooping, and transferring, while developing an understanding of key vocabulary such as full, empty, half-full, nearly full and nearly empty. These hands-on activities encouraged curiosity and helped deepen their understanding of capacity.

In phonics, we continued looking at Rhythm and Rhyme with our Write Dance song: Pat-a-cake. This week we were able to spot some rhyming words in our song! We learnt some new rhyming pairs this week such as, hen and pen, star and car.

In the tuff tray, the children had a blast exploring oobleck and dinosaurs in a fun, messy sensory play activity. They enjoyed feeling the oobleck change between solid and liquid and used dinosaur figurines to create imaginative scenes. This hands-on play sparked creativity and encouraged early science exploration.

On the creative table, children created lovely Mother's Day ornaments and enjoyed colouring activities to celebrate the occasion. They also made zoo animal puppets, encouraging creativity and imaginative play.

In the water tray, we explored capacity using jugs, measuring spoons, and labeled cups. The children practiced using capacity vocabulary like full, empty, half-full, nearly full and nearly empty, while filling and pouring water between containers. This hands-on activity helped reinforce measurement concepts and encouraged communication and problem-solving.

Our story this week was Little Red Riding Hood, with special focus on the words help, delicious, chase, and smell. Activities included discussing who we help and how, talking about our favourite delicious foods, playing a chasing game outside, and exploring different smells during forest school.

It’s been a such busy and exciting week full of learning and fun!
