Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review25 April 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Summer 1 Week 1
This term, we’re diving into the fascinating world of minibeasts! The children will be discovering all sorts of tiny creatures, from wiggly worms to busy bees. We’ll be exploring the life cycle of a butterfly and learning all about the amazing transformation of a frog. Along the way, we’ll meet lots of other minibeasts and learn about where they live, what they do, and why they’re so important in the world around us. It’s going to be a term full of curiosity, hands-on learning, and exciting discoveries!
To start our term, we've had a wonderful week full of exploring, learning, and creativity!
This week in maths, we explored sequencing, learning about the days of the week, our daily routine, and the steps to washing our hands. The children used key vocabulary to describe what happens first, next, and after.
In phonics, we focused on alliteration. The children enjoyed fun activities such as, I spy, musical corners and our sound box.
Our playdough table turned into a bug world! The children used bug stamps to make imprints and explored the shapes and patterns they created, chatting about what they could see.
In the tuff tray, we dug deep in the soil to search for hidden bugs using all kinds of tools! The children loved getting stuck in, using all their senses to explore and investigate. Especially the jelly-like worms that were wriggling around!
We’ve had lots of fun at the creative table this week! The children painted paper plates ready for our hungry caterpillar display, explored colour mixing, practiced counting through apple stamping, and built bug houses using junk modelling. They loved getting creative and linking their work to our mini topics.
There was lots of excitement in the water tray investigating our chia seed frogspawn! With spoons, magnifying glasses and spades, the children explored the squishy textures and made careful observations.
Outside, our bug hunts were a big hit! Armed with magnifying glasses, we searched high and low for minibeasts and talked about how we can care for all the little creatures and the environment around us.
NELI (Nuffield Early Language Intervention)
This week, we read Pip and Posy: The New Friend and explored new special words like dig, sea, and beach, helping to build our vocabulary and understanding through story time and engaging activities. We listened to the sounds of the beach and led down on the carpet imagining we were at the seaside and looks at different pictures of digging, then practised our digging in our tuff tray!
Morning drop off
Thank you so much for continuing to drop your children off at the door in the mornings. It really supports their independence as they begin to take responsibility for their belongings and start their day with confidence.
Have a lovely weekend!
