Reflect and Review4 May 2025 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy)) |
Summer 1, Week 2
In Maths we’ve continued to look at time. We’ve continued to read clock faces and introduced the terms “am” and “pm” to describe times before 12 noon and after 12 noon. We’ve also converted between 12- and 24-hour clock times: learning that 24-hour clock times are always shown with four digits and recognising that to convert times into a 24-hour clock format they add 12 hours to the time.
In English, Indian are continuing to create text for the picture book, The Flood, while Pacific and Arctic are reading and writing about Charlotte's Web.
Ahead of our trip next week to the Cutty Sark and National Maritime Museum we spent some time looking at the historical trade and transport and goods around the world by sailing ships. We looked at how merchants clipper ships, carrying cargoes of tea from China to Britain, would compete in informal races to be the first ship to dock in London with the new crop of each season.
In science we’ve continued to explore plants: describing various parts of a plant and their functions as well as classifying different foods as either root, stem/shoot, leaf, flower, fruit or seed.
Next week: no school on Monday. Tuesday we leave at 7.00 for our trip to London. Please try to arrive by 6.45. All children should bring a packed lunch and weather appropriate clothing.
Have a nice long weekend
