Oceans Reflect and Review10 May 2025 (by Andy Gilbert (Andy)) |
Summer Term, Week 3
In Maths this week we’ve continued to look at time, calculating durations of time between given start and end points as well as using a duration to find a start or end time, and started to think about decimals. The children have previously been introduced to unit and non-unit fractions, so should already be familiar with the idea of tenths. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll extend this knowledge by spending time representing decimal numbers.
In English, Indian are continuing to create text for the picture book, The Flood, while Pacific and Arctic are reading and writing about Charlotte's Web.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the Cutty Sark and National Maritime Museum in London. Armed with their lessons on trade and transport the children were able to speak about the Cutty Sark’s trips to Shanghai and the trade of goods between the UK, China and Australia. Our guide really brought to life some of the colourful characters from the ship’s past and the interactive elements were definitely a hit. A long day, but definitely worth it.
We have sent home information from Oxford Mutual Aid who offer help and support for those in need of a little extra help. OMA deliver food, toiletries and baby supplies parcels to households across Oxford. A link to receive food support from OMA visit https://www.oxfordmutualaid.org/support
On top of food support, they can also directly refer families to receive help from the children in need support fund, which can provide food, children's furniture and kitchen appliances in case of emergencies.
