Coral Reef Reception Reflect and Review23 May 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
The end of the term has been super busy as the children have been baking and decorating insect-themed cakes and biscuits for our Bake Sale.
Thank you for all of your generous donations at the bake sale this afternoon. We will be buying some new storybooks to share in class. We hope you enjoyed your cakes and biscuits!
As part of our RE focus, we have listened to stories from different faiths. We talked about the message behind the story and thought about what it was trying to teach us and how the message linked to our own lives. The stories we listened to were; The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Bilal and the Butterfly, The Gold-Giving Serpent, The Crocodile and the Priest and the Dog and the Elephant.
As Artists there have been lots o opportunities to be creative. On our fine-motor table we have been decorating and cutting spiral snakes linked to our RE story the Gold Giving Serpent. We have made beautiful butterflies out of coffee filters and doing observational drawings and paintings of Sunflowers.
As Mathematicians, we have been practising counting in 5's and 10's. We have been recalling number bonds to 5 so that we know them well. We have been seed detectives by investigating seeds in different fruits and vegetables. We collected the seeds and used 10 Frames to work out how many seeds were hiding, Some children were able to recognise that 9 ten frames meant they had found 90 seeds! We have closely observed the Sunflower seeds we planted last week and have been comparing the plant sizes.
As scientists, we have been observing changes in the caterpillars. It was exciting today to see that a couple of caterpillars had turned into a Chrysalis. Helen will be taking them home to look after them over the holiday. We are hoping that the children will be able to see them as butterflies next term and help to release them into our garden.
Next term:
From the start of next term, we would like parents and carers to drop off at the gate so that the children can develop their independence in preparation for their transition to Year 1. A member of the Coral Reef team will be at the gate to greet them and another by the door to the playground to ensure they get in safely. At home time, we ask that you wait at the gate we will walk the children to the gate and dismiss them once we see you. As we are encouraging the children to be more independent, there may be times when they forget things.
A reminder that payment to Legoland is due 20th June. There are still lots of places for parents to join us!
Father's Day Lego/Construction play afternoon Friday 13th June. We are inviting significant males to join us for a fun afternoon of building and playing with your child and enjoying some refreshments.
