Coral Reef Reflect and Review13 June 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT)) |
Thank you to all the dads who were able to join us this afternoon for our Lego session- we hope you had as much fun as the children!
In our topic lesson, we learnt about Eid, thinking about why it is celebrated, and some of the children who had celebrated talked about how they had celebrated with their families. The children made sheep biscuits as an Eid treat.
As writers and illustrators, we thought about the award-winning wordless story 'Floatsam' about a beach-combing young boy who finds a washed-up camera on the shore, and when the film is developed, it reveals a fantastic new world of creatures from the ocean. The children drew pictures the boy character and new creatures the camera might have captured.
As Mathematicians, we have been exploring shapes and creating Tangrams, mathematical puzzles that take advantage of the simple concept of using basic shapes to create larger or more intricate shapes and objects. The children were challenged by creating their own Tangram puzzles with a partner. They also explored using counting rods to build squares that were all the same size, remembering that a square is a special type of rectangle that has four corners and four equal sides. We have been playing lots of different games to help us understand number bonds to 10, and the children are doing well with this. On our Maths table the children had a go at creating sea themed shape patterns independently.
As artists, we have been creating observational drawings of shells, looking closely at their shapes and patterns. We have been creating carnival wings out of paper for our Windrush Exhibition on Monday 23rd June.
In our ‘plan and do’ times we have created transient art sea creatures with loose parts, we enjoyed creating narratives with the Octonaut characters and building with the magnetic tiles.
