    Explorers Weekly Reflect and Review

27 June 2025 (by Menna (Menna))

    A creative week in Explorers

As mathematicians, Beagle have been focusing on measures, converting between millimeters, meters and kilometers (along with grams and litres). Endeavour have been busy adding and subtracting decimals and making sure they have the same number of decimal places.

As writes, Beagle have written letters to the years 4s about life in year 5 whilst Endeavour have written poems and letters as part of their Shackleton work.

As musicians, Beagle and Endeavour have been writing their own song or rap and creating rhythms to go with them. On Friday we worked with Oxford Song, developing melody and patterns and performing these to each other.

On Thursday, Endeavour visited the Oxford Playhouse to see the Magdalen College School perform their version of the Three Musketeers. The performance was exceptional and the children were enthused by the performance.

St Fred’s have had a short but busy week. On Monday in art, we used clay to make clay pots. We had to focus carefully on the process of moulding the clay, before shaping it into a smooth yet standing pot. During design and technology, we finished making our cardboard gears, attached with a working mechanism in order for them to work. In English, we have continued our sentence stacking, focusing on using similes, noticing and linking ideas.

We hope all of the children on their transfer days have had a wonderful time and we look forward to hearing all about it on Monday.

    Next week:

On Tuesday, year 5 are going to Space Makers. Please make sure the permission slips are returned by Monday (payment for ice skating is due by Tuesday). They need to bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Thank you.

On Wednesday, St Fred’s will be taking part in a science investigation workshop based at school.

    Reminders:

Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school - it is very warm and they need to stay hydrated.

    Homelearning:

    • Sumdog tasks
    • Daily reading
