    Coral Reef Reflect and Review

11 July 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

What a blast we have had for our last week together!

We began the week with a special circle time. We listened to 'The Story of Fish and Snail', a story about courage and leaving your comfort zone. Afterwards, we talked about our move to our new class, and the children had the opportunity to talk about anything they were worried about or excited about, and we talked it through together.

In RE we thought about Special Places. The children looked at different types of homes and buildings across the world. They shared their special place and we thought about why places of worship are also special places. Afterwards, we used construction toys to recreate our special places.

In phonics, we have been revising all of the sounds we have learnt so far. We have been practising our decoding skills when reading words, taking part in some fun phonics games, as well as practising writing sentences.

We perfected our drawing skills when we completed a 'draw-along' with children's author Rob Biddulph. The children produced some wonderful, detailed drawings of seahorses, and some children wrote a sentence to accompany their drawings.

On Wednesday, the children had lots of fun getting wet in the garden at our 'Splash Day,' some children even said that it was 'more fun than Legoland!' It was lovely to see them having so much fun together.

As artist, we have been creating plastercine prints of shells using plastercine and coloured ink pads.

As Mathematicians, we have been recalling the names and properties of 2D shapes and creating pictures with them.

Your child's school report has been emailed to you, and a printed copy will be sent home with your child today.

Today marks the last day that the Reception children will be in the Coral Reef. We are sad to say goodbye, but we know that the children are ready for their next learning adventure.  Next week the children will go to their new classes for the last week. Please drop them at the main school gate, where their new teachers will be there to greet them. They will spend a whole week getting to know their teachers and their new environment so that they don't feel worried during the school holiday.

Thank you for all your support, kindness and understanding this year, and we wish you a wonderful summer! It is time for the children to spread their wings and fly!
